Diageo's Procurement structure is a combination of above-market global resources focused on developed world class category strategies, and in-market Procurement resources focused on excellence in execution of category strategies and supplier performance management.
This role will be a part of the above-market global team.
The purpose of this role is primarily to develop and deliver Sourcing Strategies and outcomes for the Glass and PET categories for North America that optimize value delivery to Diageo.
The scope of the role includes the Glass and PET areas of spend for North America.
A core requirement of the GCM role is to be able to manage, influence and lead a diverse set of key stakeholder relationships across the region, both internal to Diageo (Procurement, Technical, Marketing, etc) and with external suppliers.
The GCM must be analytically very strong, have a strong procurement background and have preferably some knowledge about glass in North America
The GCM will need to be pro-active in identifying suitable areas and information to mine and be comfortable accessing, gathering and analysing (via range of commonly used database and spread sheet software) a wide range of market and input cost data to drive out value generating hypothesis and opportunities (e.g. Financial / Management accounts, Input costs, currency movements, macroeconomic measures, Tariffs, Import duties, Cost modelling etc).
The GCM must be comfortable undertaking travel and meeting / working effectively with stakeholders, where required, to drive out key insights on stakeholder needs and value generating opportunities & barriers.
Packaging spend for North America is circa $120M
Procurement aim to deliver value to the business by the successful development and execution of world class Strategies and Sourcing plans
The GCM will be responsible for delivery of the Annual Operating Plan for Glass and PET in North America and will be measured against percentage savings as well as absolute delivery as aligned with the AOP
Requires working with North America teams and within the global team.
Leads the influencing of key senior stakeholders across the key supply organizations.
Requires an understanding of and ability to operate with multiple cultures and market dynamics.
Ability to handle multiple projects and be the commercial expert for innovation and change
Requires an understanding of supplier relationships, and ability to work with domestic and international suppliers- each of which will have challenges and opportunities
This role works closely with the market procurement team - ongoing development of skill and knowledge of market colleagues is a factor in the success of this role.
Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of range of analytical tools, market intelligence, commodity drivers, etc
Build and own positive and effective relationships with key counterparts across regions and the Glass and Packaging team to ensure the timely preparation and exchange of relevant key information / insights to support creation of value generating opportunities and mitigating of value destroying risks
Support the category across geographical and business cultural boundaries and with dispersed teams to:
- University Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance or equivalent
- Purchasing and/or Business qualification desirable (CIPS/MBA)
- 5-10 years of procurement within a forward thinking, fast paced and value-adding environment.
- Analytical, strong business acumen, enthusiastic, tenacious and a team player
- Experience in direct procurement, ideally in packaging and glass / PET, and / or in the packaging industry
