Context

As part of Performance and Reward, the Pensions Team is responsible for the management of the Diageo Pension Scheme (UK), the Diageo Lifestyle Plan (UK), the Grand Metropolitan Irish Pension Fund (ROI), the Guinness Ireland Group Pension Scheme (ROI) and a number of defined contribution schemes. In addition it is responsible for the governance of all pension arrangements outside of the UK and RoI.

Top Accountabilities
 
 
- Relationships - build and maintain strong relationships with the Chair of Trustees and the Trustee Directors which will include senior leaders from the across the business. Manage the relationship with the pension regulatory bodies and Trustee advisors and the third party administrator including resolution of significant issues, overseeing service agreements, changes to contracts, agreeing fee arrangements and monitoring the effectiveness and quality of service received by the Trustee
 

- Prepare scheme budgets, approve invoices, and control scheme expenditure on behalf of the Trustee
 

- Develop and manage a governance and risk framework for Diageo's pension plans in all markets which will include:

- Preparation and management of the Trustee strategic 3 and 5 year business plan in UK and RoI

- Managing the Internal Dispute Resolution Procedures (IDRP) in UK and RoI

- Provide governance expertise for Diageo's global pension arrangements

- Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements in UK and RoI

- Managing individual member cases referred to the Trustee

- Oversight and management of the exercise of trustee discretions including distribution of death benefits and ill health applications.

 
 
- Perform secretariat duties for the UK schemes that will include:

- Attending trustee meetings and sub-committee meetings

- Setting meeting agenda and agreeing these with Chairs of the Schemes

- Reviewing papers prepared by trustee services and governance managers and presenting Pension Team papers at Board meetings

- Preparing minutes and action logs

- Ensure an appropriate escalation of risks and issues


- Support the Head of Global Pensions on pension policy and strategy changes by advising on practical implications.  Liaising with the Company on administration, benefit and technical issues
 
Qualifications and experience 
 
 
- APMI qualified/ appropriate professional qualification

- At least five years' experience of working in pensions, as secretary to the Trustee within a corporate or consultancy environment

- Knowledge of UK and RoI pension legislation

- Ability to co-ordinate, manage and influence multiple stakeholders

- Strong communication skills and relationship management capabilities

- Commercial acumen with a focus on end-user / customer

- A proactive and self-motivated approach

- Ability to work autonomously

- Strong grounding in risk management
